From kitchens to bathrooms, the right tools and technique will take your tiles and grout from dull to sparkling. Read on to get the know-how…
Tiles are a popular wall and flooring choice around the home, coming in a neverending array of shapes and colours. Commonly found in bathrooms and kitchens, they are naturally water-resistant and easy to clean. But there are a few things you need to know about how to clean tiles and grout in order to keep them looking their best.
How to clean kitchen tiles
To clean your bathroom wall tiles, begin by working top to bottom, starting at the top of your walls and working down. This is easiest with a long-armed tool such as the CleanTech™ 2-piece Tile Scrubber tool attached to the CleanTech™ extension pole. Use with your chosen detergent and warm water, working in sections to remove dirt and limescale.
- Dry the wall tiles with the microfibre side of the CleanTech™ 2-in-1 Surface Scrubber Tool to make them shine.
- For floor tiles, begin by sweeping or vacuuming up hairs, dust and dirt. Then, mop the floors with hot water and detergent, using a mop with an all access rotating head, such as the Joseph Joseph CleanTech™ 2-in-1 Spray Mop.
How to clean bathroom grout
Bathroom grout demands frequent cleaning. The regular use of your shower or bath means the wall tiles are often left wet and become a magnet for mould and limescale build-up. Our CleanTech™ 2-piece Tile Scrubber and Spot-Cleaning Set is the ideal thing for the job, because it can get into all the nooks and crannies with its v-shaped bristles and scraper tool.
How to make tiles shiny
Limescale is the enemy of shine, so using a little vinegar or a glass cleaner on your tiles and drying off any cleaning product using our CleanTech™ 2-in-1 Glass Cleaning Tool is the best way to make your bathroom tiles shine again. Buff off any marks that remain with a dry microfibre cloth in circular motions.
FAQs about how to clean tiles and grout
Cleaning different types of tiles
It’s important to match the cleaning product to the tiles you have, to ensure you prolong your tiles’ life and keep them looking their best.
Washing ceramic and porcelain tiles
Porcelain and ceramic tiles are relatively easy to clean, so start with warm water and a mild detergent and microfibre mop or cloth. It’s advisable to avoid harsh chemicals in your cleaning where you can, as they aren’t good for you or your children or pets to breathe in. Good old fashioned elbow-grease really can work wonders.
Cleaning marble tiles
For marble tiles, use warm water and a wrung-out cloth or a spray mop, and avoid any harsh cleaning tools such as wire wool or brushes which could damage the surface of the tile.
Cleaning limestone tiles
Natural stones and slates require only hot water and a pH neutral cleaner or a stone-specific cleaner. They may need a targeted clean with a stiff-bristled brush followed by a wipe down with a cloth, as they can have uneven surfaces.
